Here Comes 2004

What? Are we traveling backwards in time? Nope, just finding another of my loves in my own backyard. Here she comes!

Do you think you've seen this recently? You have- follow the link to see a picture of the same engine from a few days ago. What's the big deal? Most of the engines they run do not carry this nice paint scheme.

  1. Seeing trains is one thing I miss where I live now. When I was growing up it seemed like there were always trains near. But now they seem to be disappearing even in industrial areas.

  2. I love trains! They trigger thoughts, memories and imaginations. Where are they coming from? Where are they going? What are they carrying? How is that important to the region?
Plus, they just plain look cool! :-)

  3. Yes, I saw it before. I never miss one of your posts. Much prettier than the steam powered locomotives I remember from my youth.

  4. Same beast. "Oh, the railroad runs through the middle of the house..."

  5. There are tracks about 3 blocks away from where I live. I've gotten pictures of the tracks but never the trains.
You had me fooled by the way, I thought we going to do some time travel.

  6. This looks lie a Union Pacific paint scheme. I wonder if Marquette is owned by Union Pacific?

  7. Love trains too! Unfortunately we don't have a good railway system here. How close are the tracks to your home?

  8. Ratty- trains are making a bit of a comeback, but of course, not to the level of their heyday.

Ferd- yup... I'm a railfan. I have one friend who also is, but she's in NY, so we only get to play rail stuff occasionally

Oh Chuck- I love the steam engines- so much more character. There were still a few running when I was a kid.

vanilla- when the wind blows from the south it sure sounds like it does!

ann- when i saw the engine number, it was too good a line to pass up!

rainfield- yes, they toot very loudly

John- nope. Marquette Rail was noted by Trains Magazine last year to be one of the more successful independent lines in the US. Their colors are maroon and gold, but they can't seem to make up their minds how to paint the engines. They did one in blue, and this one. The rest of the fleet are still running the colors and names of whomever they bought them from. It actually makes me wonder if they are leasing them.

Ivy- they are only about 1/8 mile away across the back property line.

  9. I really loved my trip to Switzerland and taking the train several times there - such beautiful scenery and the trains were wonderful, as well! Once, I did the Estrella, night train in a sleeper car from Madrid to Lisbon. It was so much fun but it stopped all the time and my girlfriend and I sat up drinking wine and enjoying all the sights.

  10. Carmen- I've had a few chances to take passenger trains, and I loved every one of them.
