Smoke and Fire

What a busy day! I went out to do assignments (and didn't quite finish), and then the writers' group met in the evening. I didn't even go home between, but bought a gas station sandwich and a bottle of pop. Here are the two best images of the day.

I went into Ludington from a slightly different angle than usual, and there was the Badger, firing up for a lake crossing and pouring out smoke! The Spartan, on the left, never fires up. It's just docked in storage. This view is across the Washington Street Marina, and several blocks of businesses.

The fire comes from the sunset. I'm sorry to have to show it to you with lights from the Meijer parking lot, although they do look somewhat like urban stars. They are both pretty and a sad commentary on the views of nature that most people experience these days- always some obtrusive human evidence.

I should have a surprise for you tomorrow. Oh well, I suppose every day is a surprise, but this won't be a flower or a tree or a craft project.

  1. I like the pictures, urban lights notwithstanding. I remarked at dinner last evening as we looked at the view out the restaurant window that our infrastructure intrudes on the beauty of most views. In this case, specifically a light pole that stands directly in front of a beautiful church building.

  2. I recently saw a cell phone tower that was decorated to look like a tree. What beautiful colors in your sunset photo!

  3. vanilla- I could do with a whole lot fewer light poles in the world

Jean- I have seen those too. The cell phone companies are required to do that in some locations

  4. The sunset is beautiful, even with the street lights! The boats remind me a little of cruise ships! Maybe it's just because I haven't cruise now in a year and four months which is absolutely unbelievable.

  5. Ann- the clouds are almost the same as the one Chuck took on the same day- do you think that front just moved across the state? He's about 100 miles east of me.

Carmen- yes, I think you are longing for a cruise. these would be good for a rather private cruise.
