I guess these pumpkin plants are destined to be mine. They took just about as long as possible to sprout. Procrastinators of the world, unite! I planted five seeds and only two came up. That means they won't need thinning. Seems a little odd since the weather has been as close to ideal for growing things as possible, and I watered the site regularly, and the soil was amended with compost last fall.
Anyway! If I can keep them from all the critters with teeth there is a lot of potential here. I took the next-to-last slice of whole wheat pumpkin bread out of the freezer for dinner tonight, so I have high hopes.

We do grow pumpkins here but I have never met anyone that actually made anything to eat from them, people scoop the inside out and throw it away to make the lantern for halloween - they are also grown in competition for the biggest, what strange customs we have.
ReplyDeletePumpkin pie is some of my favorite food. I also never knew there were so many different kinds of food that could be made from pumpkin until recently.

ReplyDeleteCarol- That's how most pumpkins here are used too. The varieties that are used for those aren't very tasty. These will be small round sweet pumpkins- very dense and yummy for eating.

vanilla- not very likely to sucdeed, I'm afraid, but I'm giving it a try.
Chuck- yes they are. At the rate the rabbits are decimating my flowers it's not looking good. I'll need to get serious about the fencing.
Ann- probably, but we like the flavor better than canned pumpkin. I know the can says it's nothing but pumpkin, but something isn't the same.
