What's in the Cage?

Last fall, I dug up a spot of ground and worked in some compost. Do you remember why? I actually did remember, and made it happen. A bit late, but we just had frost last week! Should be ok.

I planted some seeds for the small, sweet pie pumpkins. I think the cage will keep them safe from rabbits and deer until they get big enough to escape through the wire, and then I'll either remove it or fence a larger area. I have some fencing, but I'd have to fight with it.

Nevertheless, this is my first foray into growing a vegetable for a LOT of years.

  1. Good luck with the pumpkins. It's a pity that you have to wait so long.

Hopefully no one comes from underground.

  3. Oh, yes, you will need more fencing. No cucurbit can be contained within that enclosure!

  6. I hope it works to keep out the moochers. I have to cage our catnip because Hobbes lays on it and kills it. :)

  8. Hope you get your pumpkins in time for Halloween, Joan. We have runner beans climbing their poles this year. Last year we gave up on them because the young plants were eaten by slugs as soon as we put them in the ground.
The rhubarb is good this year too.
