Our day has been non-stop since 8:30 this morning, and tomorrow we drive home. So, I'm just going to show you a couple of pictures of the white pelicans and go to sleep. These are one of my favorite birds. They are huge, with a 9-foot wingspan. They summer in North Dakota, but apparently winter in Alabama.

Made me think of the Dixon Lanier Merritt poem (often attributed [wrongly] to Ogden Nash) about the Pelican. Which would also explain why I often refer to those birds as peckicans. If you know the poem, you know why.
ReplyDeleteHave a safe trip home.

Just caught up with your trip Joan. You've obviously been having some great adventures too.
ReplyDeleteI like when they dive into the water, head first! Such odd characters!
ReplyDeleteThey are the state bird of Louisiana and I always love to see them soaring and diving for fish.
