I love iris- all kinds but especially the bearded iris. Iris is the Greek word for Rainbow. Pretty good description, although no one has yet been able to cultivate a true red iris.

Some kind of iris is found in almost every temperate region on the planet. There are over 30,000 cultivars of bearded iris alone, not even counting other types.
