These pictures are actually from yesterday. We have three days of predicted bad weather, so yesterday I decided to try to beat the rain, and get in a bike ride. We have a rail-trail, the Hart-Montague Trail, that starts about 30 miles from us. So I loaded up my bike and headed down there.
It had rained during the night, and the light was all diffused through clouds, but that often makes leaf colors really intense against trunks which are darkened by being wet. The vibrant colors are gone, but the gold/maroon/brown palette is really rich. This is where the trail starts.
There are several places where the trees overhang the trail, but this is one of my favorite, in any season.
I just thought the intensity of color was amazing in this one. I didn't fiddle with this at all. Nope, I didn't beat the rain, but I didn't care. I was just really happy to enjoy such a beautiful day. (sorry this is rotated. Picassa isn't letting me edit right now)
Today, rain. Tomorrow and Wednesday, we are supposed to get a wind storm as bad as one in 1998 that did a LOT of damage.

..looks like it was a lovely ride. Interesting that we also here in Alabama are supposed to get really bad weather tomorrow starting around 4pm...Thunderstorms, strong winds, hail, and possible tornadoes....all coming our way from MN...must be a huge storm front!
Very pretty path for a bike ride!
We had a storm this morning. Really needed the rain but a couple of power poles fell across the road I take to work.
Sure hope y'all don't get any damage from the storm.
Looks like a great time for a bike ride. As someone who lives in California I don't get much of the fall colors.
It really reminded me of the time when I went to Wisconsin around this time of the year a few years back and the scenery was just beautiful.
Your forest is full of gold right now.
Wonderful colours.
what a great place for a bike ride. That second shot is gorgeous. We have tornado warnings in effect right now. It's been warm but windy all day. Started raining after I got home from work and the wind is picking up. Hopefully the weather will pass over both of us
Wonderful, gorgeous shots..makes you want to go down that trail for sure!
In the U.P. today we had high winds all day and rain off and on...we lost our electricity in Michigamme for nearly four hours, too.
How very picturesque! Stay safe during the storm...
Loretta- This front must be just huge- everyone is getting hit. So far, not really awful here.
Jean- power down isn't good. I'm guessing you got around them safely.
plin- yes we have pretty much the same kind of forests as Wisconsin. California is a different planet.
rainfield- it is! And today the last of the gold is raining down.
Carol- yes, it's hard to beat the US northeast for color (New England is even better)
Ann- This storm is slamming the whole mid section. I think you might get it worse than we will.
Joan- there was power out near us, but we didn't lose ours. A tree on a car in Ludington, but nothing (so far) like 1998. One more day to go, though. Glad you are safe.
Ivy- thank you! I'm not walking in those old woods... we just did the edge of the field.
That is such spectacular scenery, I might even be tempted to get on a bicycle ( though I think it's been about fifty years since I've done so! ). I love the golds and browns.
I absolutely love the photos you take!
