Here's another leftover fall botanical treat. These are the leaves of a plant called lizard tail, Saururus cernuus. See how the leaves grow in a zig-zag up the stem? It likes to grow in really wet places. In fact, where I took this picture is often completely under water. If you want to know where, go to Four Dogs and a Friend. It's right behind the second yellow lab. (different season!)

OMG, I was so foolish to look for a lizard.
Not native here but we do see it in garden ponds, very attractive in flower.
They look familiar to me but I bet I have seen them in Maine and not down here.
I love nature photos of all sorts. But, I never know the name of any of the plants. I should have payed closer attention to my mother!!
Happy day...I have an essay to work on...hope I can manage it!
