Family Tipulidae, possibly genus Tipula. These are in Order Diptera, true flies, which means they have two wings they use to fly. Their hindwings are, in some families, adapted to other uses. This one is about 2.5 inches across, including the legs. (The one in the link below was over twice that size!)
I love the iridescent wings, and the spotted antennae.
This one is a male- I can tell because the abdomen is clubbed- just like in dragonflies.
In other news: I made yogurt, I did some volunteer work and had two meetings. I edited, and I wrote a chapter. I worked a tiny bit on the trailer, but then it started raining.
