Our group hike this month was on the North Country Trail in Wexford County, Michigan, from Highbanks Rollway to 29 1/2 Road (near Baxter Bridge) and back. For most of that way the trail is near the bluff that falls to the Manistee River.
This shot is soon after we started back, and yes, the trail goes over that hump in the distance.
There are several places with amazing views across the Manistee River. This is one of the places where you can get an oxbow U-shaped shot of the river, but with the full leaf cover of summer, you can barely see the river down there. You can detect it's route by the darker line of shadow.
I liked this scene a lot.
We also dropped down to cross this unnamed creek, a good place for water access if you are backpacking.
We saw yellow-bellied sapsucker holes- where they have searched for insects.
And several instances of the alien orchid, helliborine, in bloom.
I couldn't resist picturing these building cumulus clouds from the car on the way home.
It was hot, but a great hike, with eight hikers.
