The Lonely Donkey - Cover

It was "supposed to" rain all day. Didn't rain at all. But I had plans to work hard on getting The Lonely Donkey ready to go. Here is the cover- art by Linda Sandow. I left it big so you can click to expand. Email me to pre-order a signed copy at a discount. jhyshark@gmail.com

I have it about half formatted. Still have to do the back cover, and some of the extra material. Maybe I can finish tomorrow. Maybe not. I'm going to try. Oh yeah, and that fourth illustration.

Meanwhile, have a pretty sunset. It sure is a lot prettier than the one a week ago. And the colors match the cover! sunset

Linda's Book Launch

Today, my friend, Linda Sandow, had her book launch. She is the artist who did the cover work for my children's books. She is the author of this book, and also did the cover art for her own book.

The title is Jacob Castle and Gliding Swan. This is historical fiction based on her own family history of a Mennonite man who married a Shawnee woman in the 1730s. She has been able to find enough information about the family and the times that the book is more of a fleshing out of the characters than actual fiction.

This would be an excellent book for anyone from about 5th grade on up, and somewhat younger children would certainly enjoy having it read to them.

The cake also has the art work on it!

Linda read one chapter out loud. We've heard a lot of the book in writers' group over the three years she's been working on this. I was sort of hoping she'd read about the flood on the Roanoke River, and that's exactly the passage she read.

The book is available on Amazon, or from Linda. It will probably be for sale at the Ludington Art Center, too. Got my copy! I'm looking forward to reading it straight through instead of in segments several weeks apart. This is a well-written book with interesting glimpses into life in the 18th Century.

In other news: I have to confess that I couldn't keep up my work pace yesterday. About 3 pm, my brain just said, "done." However, I got back to business today. I'm working on the Index. Talked to the printer this morning, so I'm really in the final week now.

Tea with Cindy

Did something today I haven't done for probably 20 years. I was invited to an afternoon tea with a bunch of ladies, and I actually went. This is because it was to have a chance to visit with a member of our writer's critique group, West Side Gang, whom we have not seen for quite a while.

Cindy (on the right) has been battling a serious health issue, and agreed to come to a tea at Seema's house after a therapy session. She told me it was all right to take her picture, and we all think she looks great after all the months of treatments.

We did all the things you would expect. We chatted, we chatted some more. We shared other health stories (never sure this is helpful to someone who is ill, but Cindy seemed to be OK with it). We talked about the arts in general. We talked about writing.

We ate delightful sandwiches and treats provided by Seema (whose picture I did not get, unfortunately), with some really good tea (in my opinion).

Cindy read us a humorous, but true, story she had recently written and we laughed a lot. That's always a good thing.

We probably tired her out too much before her husband picked her up, but hopefully it will be worth it to her for the memories of time with friends.

In other news: I wrote a chapter and maybe, maybe, maybe came up with the missing plot piece that DMS Mistletoe needs to complete the story line. That should make the writing go better.
