Valentine at the Beach
I wandered, lonely in the mist,
The sun shone cold, my soda warmed.
A dying carp adorned my shoe,
I felt so grand! The flies they swarmed.
A wave splashed seaweed round my knees,
I slipped upon the slimy rock.
I fell headlong; my sandwich smashed;
The soda dribbled down my sock.
A glorious day, like none I’ve known,
Gulls dropped like angels from above,
I never saw the great white shark,
O don’t you know, I was in love!

P.S. 9:30 Mon- I obviously did not succeed in my purpose based on comments so far. This is supposed to be funny. Guess I'm not as cute as I thought.

I enjoyed your Valentine's poem, Shark...no doubt, inspired by a stroll by the lake with Maggie and your diet soda.
Happy Valentines day. We hiked and letterboxed today. Outdoor fun!!
Lovely poem. It was a lovely day here as well...but no beaches
i've enjoyed immensely your poem, Sharkbytes, it's light, fun and full of warmth, just like being in love :)
wow very nice poem!
happy valenines day
Sweet and wonderful poem! I like it!
romantic! happy Valentine's Day!
From where I sit, it looks like you hit a home run with this one. I was chuckling, so Sylvia read it over my should and we both had a great laugh. Thanks for sharing this.
Well I did think the part about smashing the sandwich was funny. I know how you feel though, it is so hard to be clever. Keep trying.
Shark, it's so witty, cute and imaginative. Very well done.
Your VD poem gave me a smile. Is there anything more poetic than "A dying carp adorned my shoe, I felt so grand"? Nay, I say. Nay.
Thanks very much for visiting Small & Big and for your exciting prophecy.

Happy Valentines Day Sharkie, the poem reminded me of the poems we made up and sent to our would be Valentines of course we never had the nerve to sign it. Sometimes we meet them later in life and arn't we are glad that we didn't :)
Me & Arnold had a good laugh about that dying carp adorning your shoe.
LOL I missed this yesterday. Not your typical Valentine Poem but I like it :)
That sounds like my typical Valentines day, actually just about any day really.
Nice poem, somehow I think it is funny :) well written
LOVE it! lol It's just the kind of poem that I prefer to read in a Valentine's card. :D
I think I can identify with this Valentine's Day poem more than most of the others. The comical irony is fun.
Carmen- ha! actually it was inspired by an article I had just finished about beaches in the UK.
Julia- sounds like great fun! I still hope to play that some day.
Silvergirl- thanks
Icy- um... I guess I missed on making the humor obvious
wenn- if you say so...
Chuck- Yes! Glad my weird humor gets through to some. Chuckling Chuck- I like that.
Marg- good! It was supposed to be funny.
Jo- "witty" -hey I like that. Thank you.
Hi P.L. - I mean it, your blog is lookin' great!
Hi Duxbury- wish I knew your name too, but hi to Arnold! Glad you liked that carp line. When we first moved to MI the alewives had just moved in a few years before and were dying off on the beaches so bad that you couldn't walk without stepping on dead fish. But alewife didn't fit the rhyme!
Hi Ann- you thought I would be typical?
Jen- perhaps you are on the same sort of wavelengths as I am
Vanilla- Great! Thank you. It's supposed to be funny.
Ivy- Once again you prove your similarity to me.
Ratty- I knew you would get it. (Or if not, I knew it would be a complete flop)
