Piedmont Lake Fun - Day 98

Our off-road miles today were around Piedmont Lake. I just liked the interference pattern on the water surface in this picture. interference pattern

But before we got to the lake, there were a lot of fun things to see. Skull Fork Covered Bridge is very nice. The road does not pass through it any more, but you can walk through, and there are a couple of picnic tables inside. We stopped for a snack. The design is a Multiple King Post, and it was built in 1876. Skull Fork Bridge

We passed a small farm that had a delightful assortment of animals. There were a few sheep, and this hairy, chunky porker. spotted pig

The goats were the best, though. This mama goat is gorgeous. There were a lot of baby goats! And you know that kids will be up to all kinds of shenanigans. spotted goat

This decorated shed made us smile. shed decorated with wash tubs

Piedmont Lake was beautiful! It was so nice to have blue sky and blue water. The temperature was cool, but not cold- really nice for walking, actually. Piedmont Lake

Lots of Spotted Wintergreen in the woods, Chimaphila maculata. It's not a wintergreen, and it's not an orchid, but it is a "high quality" plant. It's related to Pyrola, Indian Pipe, Heather and Blueberry. It was nice to see so much of it. It's not endangered in Ohio or Michigan, but it is in some states and in Canada. spotted wintergreen

One more fun fact. This is all that's left of a ship, the SSS Hanna, Sea Scout Ship Hanna. It was built in 1946 by the Hanna Coal Company and was used as a Boy Scout Camp until 1960. This item was described as the mooring pin. mooring pin

More struggles with fallen trees this afternoon, but we did well anyway. Sue and the puppies managed to pick up quite a few ticks while searching for geocaches, so checking doggies and selves was the evening activity. Annabelle got quite a haircut, but we think she is tick-free.

Miles today: 15.1. Total miles so far: 1259.1.

Great pictures! And thank you for the tick warning. We are planning to hike in northeast Ohio tomorrow and we will be on the lookout for them. I didn't realize that they are out so soon.
