Spirit of the Woods Work Day

Today was a work day for the trail group. We're still working on that huge boardwalk project in Sterling Marsh. You'll probably hear more about that next week.

digging post holes

There's so much to do! Some sections are still only just begun. The first thing that has to happen is digging post holes. That's really hard work!

building boardwalk

This section is much closer to completion. I chose this picture for two reasons. First of all, it really shows the process. The decking boards are attached from the bottom of the picture back to the break, and only laid out beyond there. A couple of people were screwing those down. The other reason I chose this one is because it shows Loren, whom regular readers will recognize. She's working on the edge railing.

drilling holes

Here's someone else you may recognize. Yup, I was drilling holes for the bolts that hold the railing on. We had a meeting in the late afternoon, and then I walked for a bit after that.

yellow fingers

This little grouping of beauties gave me a smile! No IDs- this picture is just about the music of the woods. I went for a quick swim when I got home in an attempt to cool off. The water is so warm that even though it's refreshing, I would need to stay in the water a lot longer to really cool down, but it still felt good.

That looks like a huge project but that's going to be some boardwalk when it's done. That's one heck of a big drill bit you've got there.
I like that last picture and "music of the woods" describes it perfectly.

Looks like a big and expensive project. Do you get a grant for this work? The last picture is beautiful and inspiring.

The last picture and the refreshing dunk are the rewards for all the hard work.

We too have some wooden walkways on some of our trails and someone had the idea of placing small tree trunks/branches across some of the muddy pathways which appears to work quite well on the less watery places.
You look as though you are making a marvellous job of your walkway trail.

Lovely pictures of the 'grouping' such a large variety and so close together.

I especially love the last pic, like a piece of fairyland right there. :)

Ann- it will be almost 1/2 mile of boardwalk, when done next year

Umihoney- it really is awesome- several agencies have had to work together and us- the volunteers

John- funding has come from several grants

vanilla- i liked the grouping in the woods, but didn't realize quite how special the pic was till i got home

Chuck- some of the guys have put in hundreds of hours

Dennis- I got to go help yesterday. I barked at the important places. Maggie

rainfield- yes, I know you would have heard the singing.

Polly- so many species in one little spot in the woods here is unusual. It happened to look in the right place at the right time.

Ivy- the purple mushroom just looks like something from a coloring book.
