Adams Flower Show 2025

 It's always fun to take in the small flower show put on by a large store near Marie's house, and it's free. This was my third one.

They fill one large room of their nursery space with displays. It's always super colorful with the primary emphasis on flowering plants, which is exactly what we all need to see in March.

This is the second time I've been involved in taking Selma to this event. You may recall that she is a friend of Marie's who is now 96. We have to take her in a wheelchair, but we got her into this seat that was created for people to take photos. She really loves going to the show. She can't see much or hear well, but she loved the scents, and was able to feel a number of the plants.

They always build a couple of water features, and this just the top of a waterfall, but I loved the mist with the dragon and the ravens.

This was a new plant to me, called Cardboard Palm. The leaves are very stiff with rough edges, and they form a V from the stem. Selma liked being able to feel it.

Another colorful "hillside" display. I like the low junipers, 'Bluestar Juniper.' They are really attractive beside other bright-colored plants.

We spent a little over an hour working our way around this exhibit. Then we bought dinner from the deli in the store. Selma really appreciates getting out occasionally. She needs more help then she did, and she's getting forgetful, but she's still fun to be around. She has a great sense of humor and never whines or grumbles about things she can't do.

So that took care of the afternoon, and we spent the morning with me solving some computer problems Marie was having. I wasn't sure I could do everything she needed, but I managed ALL of the issues. Whew. It's all good, but we were both exhausted at the end of the day.

  The produce and fresh food market that Marie shops at does a small flower show of their own every year. This is in one room. It is free and open to the public. You won't find rare or unusual plants there, but what you will find is beautiful masses of color in abundance. This is just what one needs at this time of year. This year there were three waterfalls; this is the primary one.

The colors and textures are outstanding for a small show. You could pretty much point your camera anywhere and get pictures this dense.

I especially like it when there are adjacent groupings of complementary or contrasting color. Here are purple spoon mums, pink azalea, and a white daisy.

The colors and form of ranunculus are always stunning. This is basically a cultivated variety of buttercup.

Here's a variety of begonia that I am pretty sure I haven't encountered before, although I've featured over 30 varieties on the blog previously. I need a couple more lifetimes so I can spend one of them cultivating begonias, hostas, heucheras, and succulents.

This was a bigger deal than just going with Marie. We took Selma. We ate lunch together then went to the Flower Show. She was SO happy. She is walking quite a bit now (she broke a leg in November), but can't stay on her feet for long enough to do the whole day without a chair. After we had seen it all, we got ice cream before taking her back to the rehab center. At 92, she's having memory issues and doesn't see or hear very much. But we all had a good time. She is really upbeat and has a cute sense of humor. It's easy to be with someone even when they have difficulties when they are so clearly having a great time.

For today's new fact that I choose to remember, I learned that you don't have to leave shrimp plants trailing in a tangled mess from a hanging pot. These have been wrapped and tied around a pole to turn them into a topiary. I liked this look much better.

This took most of the day. We did a couple other small errands afterwards.
