Michigan's Common Orchid

pink lady slipper

Here you go... this is the pink Lady Slipper or Moccasin Flower. None of our wild orchids are so common that you don't stop and ooh and aah over each and every one. But this is the one you are likely to see most often, Cypripedium acaule. It's such a showy plant that it's hard to be unimpressed. I think I've finally gotten a good closeup.

Superb photo, one our rarest and I mean rare is Cypripedium calceolus also called Lady's Slipper, it native but has to be protected due to thieves. This year it has had police protection.

The color is very unusual for an orchid however beautiful. What a great find.

I've seen some of these flowers and wondered what they were. Thanks for making the solution easy for me.
