Remember the snow-making machines? (See Explosion? Fire? Foggy Valley?) Today I had to survey a house that is in the actual resort community for Crystal Mountain. How would you like to have this in your backyard?
It was actually quite bizarre. There is also a golf course in the resort, and it was all still green. You could actually play golf and ski on the same day! I didn't get a picture of the golf course, but if you look at the lawn in front of the lodge you can see the green grass.
The public parking lot was almost full. The winter lovers with money to buy lift tickets were out in force.
Downhill skiing is not a sport for the poor. Actually, if you catch one of the early deals on season tickets, you can get a pretty good price, but you'd have to go there at least once a week to get your money's worth out of it. The equipment isn't cheap either. I'd love to learn how to downhill ski, but cross-country is a lot cheaper and easier!
While many parts of the U.S. are getting blasted with winter storms already, it looks like Lower Michigan is going to have a green Christmas. How strange is that? Except for Crystal Mountain, of course!

No complaints about a green Christmas. One of the traditions for transplanted Puerto Ricans is to listen to the song I'm Dreaming of a Green Christmas--in Spanish of course.
I'm just glad that all the rain we've had wasn't snow. Otherwise it would have been up to my chin by now.
looks like we might have a green Christmas - we did have a layer of snow last Friday, thankfully it had gone two days later.

I had a friend who joined the schools ski club, I wanted to too but wasn't allowed. I never did get a chance to learn and now I hate the cold so it's not likely I ever will
I'm actually thankful for no snow this year - so far. It's making the commute to work much more bearable. It would be nice if this years' snow fell in increments of 1/2 inches instead of feet!

We use to get lots of snow, one year I remember it was piled up on the side of the roads and it was late spring before the last of it finally thawed, the moors are the worst due to the drifts, lots of sheep are lost in them. As one old farmer once said when he had lost most of his stock "it was too long a winter" those words always come back to me when I see the bleak landscape -
It's green here too. Sigh. I sort of wish for some snow so the kids can go sledding or something over break.
Do you have snowshoes, Sharkey? I want snowshoes. Especially those lavender ones I saw at Scheels.
It's funny, even those snowy places make snow to improve their ski areas...but, of course, here in Mumbai, temperatures were high and we went out and gathered coconuts off the palms for our curry!
