Maggie's Tips - Wear Orange

Maggie the dog

Hi there! I haven't had a chance to tell you what's on my mind very often. Today I'm thinking that I should tell you about my vest. Mom says it's orange, but since I can't see colors, I have to take her word for it. But every year in the fall, she makes me wear this thing when we go outside. And she wears a hat, which she doesn't wear any other time of year.

She says this is so that all the neighbors who are making disturbing noises in the woods can see me. I don't know why they can't smell me. I can smell them. I can smell that the animals are moving around a lot more than usual. Can you see the other people wearing orange in this picture?

Here they are. Did you find them? They are across the railroad tracks. Mom says they are very careful; good neighbors. But she's found other people nearby who aren't so careful. So, here's my tip- do like my mom says... WEAR ORANGE at this time of year.

P.S. I got to chase a cat! I don't know where it lives, but I chased it right out of my field!

She is cute in her orange vest! When we live upnorth, I made my children wear orange things too!

It's that time of year here, too! My local hunter is a bow hunter--no guns on our farm for hunting! But the orange idea is more safe, I'm sure. Dakota has never worn a jacket before....hmmmm?

Good advice! We had an orange vest for Tucker for when we used to go out in the woods behind our house during hunting season. Red dogs look too much like deer!

Hi Maggie!

You know I bet a lot of people don't even think about wearing orange this time of year in when they go into the woods.
Good job reminding them.

I don't live near the woods, but we sometimes ride the bike past where hunters are I think I might suggest some orange jackets because the people up here are nuts and there have been a lot of antsy hunters. Great tip.

This is a great tip because it never occurred to me to dress a dog in orange. I don't live in an area where there is supposed to be hunting but that doesn't always stop some people.

Maggie, you look good in orange, and mom's right...this time of year don't leave home without it.

Stopped in to say thanks for placing my advert, it's appreciated. Hope you'll swing by for a visit, the welcome mats always out.

Hey everyone! I love your comments, but I gotta catch some Zs. In Michigan, hunters during gun-deer season are required to wear blaze orange. It's a very good law. Most hikers here just don't go on the trails during those 2 weeks. But there are hunters near enough to my house that I don't even like to go out here without orange, since lots of accidents happen every year. I have caught hunters less than 100 yards from my house, and in the cemetery. I don't mind hunting, but I have no desire to get shot, or have Maggie get shot.

See you tomorrow!

We luckily dont have hunting in the woods that we go hiking in, but you are right - that doesnt stop some people. He looks GOOD in the orange though.. and i'm sur ethat running around in woods where there are loads of animals to sniff out was a lot of fun..

I got a good video of my Cappy dog (a beagle) hiking through Sleeping Giant State park
