The Quintessential November Day

Emily Dickinson wrote:

I like the fall, the mist and all
I like the night owl's lonely call
And wailing sound
Of wind around.

I like the gray November day
And bare dead boughs that coldly sway
Against my pane.
I like the rain.

Today was cold, rainy and gray. The good part was that it wasn't pouring buckets the way it was yesterday, because I had to go out and do assignments.

gray water

The water was lead gray

cornfield in fall

Wind rattled the trees, and pushed corn leaves horizontal from the stalks.

winterberry and cattail

But, despite the gray, there is always a bright spot (winterberry and cattails).

Emily liked the fall, but not quite the way it sounded in the first verses above. She finished the poem:

I like to sit and laugh at it
And tend my cozy fire a bit.
I like the fall
The mist and all.

I like all seasons. But unlike for most people, fall is my least favorite. It seems dark and depressing for me. I've been trying to change my attitude towards this one season, but I've been mostly unsuccessful. Despite the gloom, I still like going outside in the fall, so that may be some progress. I do like the poem and the pictures you shared though.

I like the poem and I would like to tend a cozy fire a bit myself. :)
Just saw on my computer that we have a lake effect snow advisory from midnight tonight until noon tomorrow. I'm not ready for this stuff

Hi Elvirah- Emily Dickinson is very popular, even though she lived over 100 years ago.

Chinmay- I sure like my seasons. I don't think I could live where it's hot all the time

John- probably. I don't think she's still under copyright. Check the Google book project

Ratty- it used to be my least favorite too, but the crisp air and sunshine are making me appreciate it

Mona- I really like the four seasons.

I like it too. Each season has its sharp edge, but each brings delights without equal.
