I spent most of today just doing yard and garden work, so I'll catch you up on yesterday's hike. Cathy and I, with new acquaintance Barb (who also joined us last week), went out to hike at West Shore Community College. It wasn't sunshine-and-fall-leaves gorgeous like the hike in the link below, but it was fine.
Here are Cathy and Barb on the bridge at the south end of the pond.
The pond doesn't have color around it yet- the grass is finally getting green, but not the leaves.
We did see a pair of bufflehead ducks.
We walked enough of the mowed trails that are the cross-country team course that we got in a total of 3.2 miles. I wore the big pack. It's feeling easier.
Sandhill cranes here today, and I almost stepped on a garter snake.
Miles hiked in 2025: 141.7
West Shore Community College trails, 3.2 miles

Looks like it was a nice day. I had to go out yesterday and noticed some of the trees are looking pretty green but most still have a ways to go yet.
Lulu: "Ooh, it's definitely snake season! Yesterday Bean and I were having fun bothering a gopher snake in the backyard!"
Java Bean: "Sí, it was a good time! But our Dada's Mama and Dada are visiting us and his Dada snitched on us, and Mama and Dada made us stop. And of course they had to make sure it was a gopher snake and not some other kind of snake, since for some reason I have a reputation now ..."
Ann- VERY little green on the trees. The alien honeysuckle is leafing out, and it's always the very first
Bean- yes, you be careful playing with those snakes. Hope Dada's M&D have a good time and give you lots of ear scritches.
