More!

More of the same, but no one is tired of it yet. We began today by going to Dave and Rachel's church. It was youth Sunday, and Anja was the Scripture reader. She's really growing up! She's checking the program one last time with her mom, Rachel.

Mia would rather stand over the hot air register and make funny faces. Being eight is great!

The afternoon was filled with games and eating. We played more Tell Tale, and then Telephone Pictionary (see link to description of that), and then after supper more Bananagrams.

Bananagrams

The people in the picture are L-R: Mia, Jay (Pam's oldest son, David's cousin- he also lives in Philly and came over for the afternoon), Anja, Pam (married to Marie's brother), Marie and me. Dave and Rachel are so gracious to let us completely take over their house for the weekend. We all have a great time, even though the space is small. It doesn't matter when people are having fun and helping each other.

Tomorrow is the flower show!

Answers to Vocabulary Day- Feb 2013

vocabularyMy new words this month and the multiple choices to guess are found at Vocabulary Day- February 2013. Ann says the fichu is a tissue for the sneezing fish! That has to be the daffy winner.

1. fichu
b. a neckerchief- a triangular scarf worn in the 18th century to cover the shoulders and bodice.

2. chorine
a greenish gas you are thinking of chlorine
c. a chorus line dancer
a yellow mineral that would be chromium

3. vaporetto
d. a public water bus- used on the canals of Venice. They were originally powered by steam, hence "vapor"

4. simoon
a. a hot dry wind- particularly in the desert
an ape try simian

5. skirred
gathered I tried to trick you into thinking shirred
b. traveled rapidly- as in scurry. It's actually from the root scour- the way leaves might grate across dry ground when pushed by the wind

Slow, with Friends

First of all, apologies for not posting the answers to the Vocabulary Day. I'll try to do that tomorrow. Life gets crazy when there are seven people involved.

This morning, Mia came in to cuddle with Grandma Marie and do a crossword puzzle. Aunt Pam was reading her book, and I got to chime in with some help on the puzzle. Marie said it was a perfect Saturday morning, to "wake up slow, with friends." Pam said, "as opposed to fast, with enemies?" We all laughed at that and chose Marie's plan.

Mia and Marie

The day centered heavily on whatever Anja and Mia wanted and needed to do. (Which is fine.) There was choir practice for Mia, and a library trip. Daddy David handled all that. He also did a trip for groceries, and then a trip to get the groceries that were forgotten the first time. The rest of us did food and played games (mostly Bananagrams) and talked.

After lunch, Everyone except David painted shells with nail polish. Definitely not on my list of talents, but I'm continuing to learn about little girl activities!

In the late afternoon Marie and I walked to church. What a deal! We got to have a nice walk, worship in a beautiful building, and come home to dinner on the table. I could get used to all that.

After dinner, we all played a game called Tell Tale. There are cards with pictures and each person in turn reveals a picture and has to make up part of a continuing story that uses that picture. Of course, the story gets sillier and sillier as it goes on, but it's very creative to do with kids.

The wheels (accidental pun) have been set in motion for the replacement for my car...

I'm way behind on visiting all your blogs. There is hardly a spare minute when I'm in Philly. But I don't want to give up any minutes with these folks. They are like family to me. But, don't worry, I won't forget you.

Travel Time

Where do I try to go every year around the beginning of March? East, then south.

Today we drove down across Pennsylvania and through the Lehigh Tunnel.

Lehigh Tunnel

Here's a skyline that should look familiar.

Philadelphia

Finally we are at the front door of friends/family. I promise people pictures tomorrow.

Yup, I am in Philadelphia. My car is in Sarnia, Ontario. Dead. Permanently. Stay tuned for more developments. We are all headed for bed here. Everyone is exhausted for various reasons. The good news for me is that I didn't have to cancel the trip. All it takes is money. *eyeroll*
