Scamp

I'm at the conference and things are in full swing. Having a great time but always exhausting. I'll start sharing about that maybe tomorrow. Have to find places to plug in and connect.

Anyway, Lyle and I stopped at the Scamp factory in Minnesota to get a few things done on his trailer. Can you believe so many fiberglass trailers?

Those were outside. These are inside.

Here's where they make the shells by spraying fiberglass into molds.

Everything is done by hand. Here they are putting the rubber gasket on the bottom edge.

I learned a lot and got a ton of ideas, even though mine is a different brand.

Gotta go- Having a blast with trail friends.

Minnesota

We are about halfway across Minnesota. Here's the view as we approached Duluth from Wisconsin. It's on the hill across the river.

Duluth

We got to our campground really early, so I took a walk. The (paved) Paul Bunyan trail is near the campground and I did an out-and-back. Lyle has a sore hip. Neither one of us is happy about that, but he even more than I.

The most intriguing thing today was that we were camped next to two bear hunters who had shot a small sow and were just heading home. In this state you just have to take the head and skin to the DNR to register the kill, so they had that in one cooler, and the meat all packed in ice in a bigger cooler. They offered to give us some but we don't have any real way to keep it till we could deal with it. But it was quite an experience to hear about it all. They were very interested in the North Country Trail. They knew parts of it near them. And... they bought two books!

Tomorrow should be interesting. We are staying here for a particular reason. Stay tuned

Over and out for today.

On the Road with Lyle

We are long time travel buddies, Lyle and I!

friends

Always to trail-related things and this time is no exception. We are on the way to Fargo, ND for the annual North Country Trail conference/celebration- whatever they are calling it this year.

First milestone was to cross the Mighty Mac. Lousy picture, but you don't get stunning ones from inside a vehicle while crossing.

Mackinac Bridge

We had to stop to see the recently opened Cut River Bridge. It's been closed with a detour for so many years I was beginning to think it would never re-open. We ate lunch and walked a short trail that took us underneath.

The day was windy, although warm, but it was kicking up some good waves on the north shore of Lake Michigan

We saw a lot of this today. Yes, Lyle also has a little fiberglass trailer. Great minds seem to think alike.

Now we are settled in at a city campground for the night. Good travel day.

Crazy!

OK, I went to church with Loretta, Paula and GayLynne this morning.
friends

Ester came this afternoon to tell me all about her trip and pick up the dog.

While she was arriving Lyle called, and it seems I had misunderstood. I thought I had till tomorrow to get ready to leave for North Dakota, but he was arriving to pick me up in just an hour or so. Yikes!

So I've been packing like mad, and we will leave first thing in the morning.

What a crazy day.

Suddenly Fall, and Rabbits

Picked up Loretta at the airport today and got to spend some time with her which included good food. Of course we had to take a few looks at Lake Michigan. On this chilly and rainy day it certainly looked cold.

In other news... the rabbits have arranged themselves into a blanket. It was presented to Loretta tonight to take back to The Healing Place, which is run by a friend of hers, and provides grief counseling for children.

Fun day, but I'm ready for some additional sleep.
