Mailboxes 1

On the hike last year, I encountered quite a few interesting or whimsical mailboxes. However, even though I really enjoy finding these there were always more interesting features that defined the trail on any given day.

But I'd like to show them to you. Here are three. I especially like ones that are homemade

This one is a bit more weathered, but someone spent some time to make this horse.

Completing this trio is a silo. I think we can safely conclude that these come from a rural area. And, yes, they were all within 25 miles of each other.

Things like this just make me smile. Smiling is good.

In other news: I felt good and worked hard on all my projects. I need to be ready to leave here on Tuesday morning, so I need to keep moving. Biggest project news is that I solved an annoying issue of how a piece of software was displaying on the new computer. It just takes forever to make big transitions like this.

Metal or Plastic?

This does not come under the heading of most exciting blog posts ever, but it needed to be done and I finally did it.

There is no right answer to metal or plastic. Neither one lasts long enough. You can see that the metal one is dead. The previous one was plastic.

I went back to plastic again. I doubt it will last more than a couple of years. I blotted out the address number to preserve some smidgen of privacy, although most of you already know where I live. I have had to put the whole address on because Google can't seem to figure out that numbers followed by a W are west of Scottville and numbers followed by an E are east of Scottville. Several deliveries have been lost because of this stupidity. I've argued with Google, but they know best. I only live here.

In other news: I wrote in the morning and formatted in the afternoon. I know, I've said that before, but it's the story of my life for the next couple of weeks. Roads are getting icy, but I don't have to go out.

Whimsy

One of the most fun parts of hikes like this is discovering little jokes that are less likely to be seen in the woods.

Who could resist a chuckle at this mailbox?

This was perhaps our favorite.

sidewalk repair

Some homeowner had to use concrete to repair a section of sidewalk that was no longer level. So, rather than just make a boring flat ramp, he or she embedded goodies. I wonder if there is a secret message.

And just to prove that fun is where you find it, here's a nifty shadow of some grasses. Where did we see this, you ask? Inside a porta-potty, of course.

And commercial displays can even add to the fun. This restaurant had a welcoming lobster.

The Mailbox or the Deer

This story happened last week, and earlier, but I just got the mailbox picture today. Here's how to play tricks on your mind.

Let's start with earlier. Sometime last fall I was driving down a hill, in a snowstorm, always watching for deer, you know. I saw one! Right on the edge of the road too. But when I got there it was only a mailbox that was leaning.

OK, that picture probably didn't fool you, but maybe it gave you the idea. I have no clue exactly what road and mailbox were involved in this incident.

Fast forward to last week. Snowing again. Looked down the road. Not going to be fooled like that again. No sir (or ma'am). But I was. Those darned slanty mailboxes with another post (like for a paper box) showing are very deceptive.

Same day, maybe an hour later, I see another of those mailboxes.

When I got there, YIKES, it was a deer!

Who did just what you'd expect. Stood there and looked at me...

Then ran down the road.

Nearly Wordless (Speechless?)

Not mine. At one of the houses I took pictures of for an assignment. Need I say more?
