All Connected - Day 308

Bill and I finished the Border Route Trail today, and did the northernmost mile of the Superior Hiking Trail. There are now no gaps left for me to fill in, and hopefully I won't make any new ones.

Here I am at the 270-degree overlook at the northern terminus of the SHT. I like this picture.

You can see that the colors are coming into their glory.

All waterways we crossed today were easy with good bridges. This is the Stump River.

The Border Route just never stops with the vistas. This is some cliff on the Canada side.

This island is in South Fowl Lake just on the Canadian side of the line. There was a tiny cabin on it we could see by looking carefully.

This picnic table has a story. It's been here, right here, at least since 2009, but there is a 1999 date carved on it. One end is half buried in the ground, so I'm quite sure it hasn't been moved an inch. When four of us hiked this before (Marie, Ed, Lyle, and I), we were so surprised to find a picnic table in the middle of nowhere that we sat down and ate, just because we could. Bill and I did the same thing today. Now, it's listed as a campsite. Bill contemplated how many people might have slept on the table since the ground was really lumpy.

We had to hike an extra tenth of a mile UP to actually reach the 270-degree overlook, but it was really spectacular. This is the view south.

Miles today: 12.4 (plus the 0.1 x 2). Total miles so far: 3594.3.

Now, I'll get a significant break from hiking. We are headed back to Walker, MN for the NCTA Celebration. I'm looking forward to it! I'll get the catch-up posts from the Border Route done as I can.

Beautiful pictures! I am trying to figure out how I can get some of this trail section into my future hiking plans. Thank you so much for taking the time to post all your great pictures and commentary.
