The Creek in Winter

icy creek

I really want to show you these pictures. They were taken three days ago, when the first dusting of snow was just returning to the bare ground. With the snow gone, I simply hiked, and so was able to get down to the creek. In the snow, the trail is too steep to snowshoe down, and skis are too awkward in the woods, so I seldom see the "cemetery creek" in the winter. This creek has no official name. It's only about a mile and a half long.

Top above, is the view looking south, and next... looking north. With the ground rather brown, but the creek iced with a frosting of light snow, you can really see the shape of the valley. The leaves being down enhances that too. You can't see this geologic configuration well at all in the summer, and the edges are softened with plants.

I really love to look for interesting shapes in the ice. No crystals at the edges this day, but some novelites, even so. My favorite one is below- it has a variety of shapes and textures.

I found you from The Best Parts. I love your site. I’m going to poke around a little bit, but don’t worry I’ll put everything back where I found it!!

Look like I cannot walk on top of the creek.

Great shoot with the ice. How I wish I can get one snapshot myself too.

love the curving path of that creek. You found some interesting shapes and textures there. It's amazing what mother nature can do. she's quite crafty :)
