Wildlife Du Jour

I have been doing work assignments most of yesterday and today. Let's see... I get paid to drive all over and discover back roads and small lakes. Today, one property was gated and I had to walk in through a forest for a half mile. Shocking! I can see you have a lot of sympathy. Seriously, except that the reporting takes a lot of time, and the company wants it to take less time (I seriously don't know how to fix that... I'm not dawdling.) this is a great job for me.

Today, I'm featuring animals spotted this afternoon.

great blue heron flying

Here's a frequent sight, but I seldom manage to catch it. It's a great blue heron in flight. Its head is on the left, and feet trailing out to the right. It was sharing a field with the next sighting.

buffalo

You will see the occasional buffalo farm in Michigan. The meat is very good eating, unless you are a veg. The animals weren't interested in posing- most facing the other way. But one baby stood up to pose.

albino deer

This one was a shock, but I shouldn't have been surprised. I'd heard that there is a significant local population of albino deer. I'd even seen a stuffed one (yes the entire deer) on display in a local sport shop, but I hadn't run across any. Well... imagine my astonishment when two of them walked across the road in front of me today. They were with two normal whitetails, one of which had an injured leg. I was watching that one, and didn't see the white deer at first. Wow! I missed the really good pics, with no intervening trees because I couldn't get the camera on and the window open fast enough. I never would have expected to see two of them together. Maybe they were twins.

sea serpent

And just in case you aren't impressed enough, I give you the loch serpent of Little Star Lake!

Lovely photos, I often wondered why no one has seen Nessy the Loch Ness monster for a while didn't know she had gone on holiday :)

Lovely pics! How lucky of you to see all those creatures, especially the last one ;)
The albino deer are so cool. In Columbus, there's a small population of albino squirrels that I've seen from time to time. They hang around the university campus. Always fun to see.

Hi,
I just found your post at the blog The Real Blog Status.
I lost my blog Hella Heaven the same way you did.
I'm amazed, really paralyzed...
I don't know what to think because I have no idea of what happened.
You start another blog! Good!
I don't feel like doing it now.
This is the account of my first blog that I have in another account.
But I don't publish at this anymore and my post at Hella Heaven were not related to what I write here.

The white deer stunned me. I saw a partial this winter, about half-white; but this is fantastic. Okay, explain the last picture.

What a wonderful job you have. Thanks for the pic's. I've never seen an albino deer or a real Nellie :)

That IS the perfect job for you. Lots of great sightings today. I probably wouldn't have gotten the camera out quick enough to get a shot of those deer.
Good thing you got photographic proof of that serpent. Otherwise no one would have ever believed that you saw it :)

Wow! What a great job you have--and it is so perfect for you!! All that hiking and nature!! :)

Can't believe you caught the monster with your camera!!

Carol-A nice little vacation, but the lake is so small I think it must be a nessie baby.

Joyuna- I'm trying to remember if I've seen anything other than these deer in the wild. In zoos, of course.

Ana- I'm hopeful that I'll get mine back. They aren't deleted. They have just removed my access right now. Sorry that you had the same trouble.

vanilla- huh, I haven't seen a deer with two colors. Oh, it's a plastic decoration of course, but I admit it took me by surprise when I came up to it!

Ro- If I have to have a "job" it's not a bad one, for sure.

Ann- I'm getting faster with the camera, but it does take a few seconds... usually too long with moving subjects.

Lin- that's me, the monster catcher!

Love the wildlife pictures, can never see enough of them .... like your 'loch monster' .... they keep saying there are sightings of dinosaur like creatures in remote parts of Africa so mind if you fancy going on safari!
Apparently hundreds of new creatures are being found and logged every year throughout the world. I wonder how long it will be before there are no new ones left to find?

Polly- I know! I'm still hoping Nessie is real.

Nice post with excellent pictures. The pictures alone would make me want to go there, because they show how much character the place has!

The two little albino deer are so pretty! As for buffalo, I have eaten it and it's pretty tasty.

We have a buffalo paddock here in Golden Gate Park.

Great shot of the blue heron in flight!

Book- The pictures came from three separate places, but we do have lots of beautiful rural spaces here.

Carmen- I have tried buffalo several times and I like it too.
