Marie and I started on the Conservation Trail today, the part of it that isn't concurrent with the main Finger Lakes Trail. We've both already done that.
This is in Cattaraugus County. Ring any bells? The "Western Wall." Hills. But that includes beautiful hillside farms. I took a lot of pictures because I really like these views, but I'll only share one.
We have just this one Branch Trail of the FLT system to complete to get that patch. We'll only do half of it this year, but we will get the 2023 50-mile patch.
It's September, so the asters are blooming everywhere. I love the dark purple New England Asters.
Marie found a tiny speckled egg. It's smaller than a robin's. There are a lot of brown speckled eggs though. Maybe some sparrow?
5.5 of our miles were on road. The final 2.1 miles were on trail. We went up 300 feet, then down 150, then up 400, then down 300.
We were looking forward to the trail part, but unfortunately, it was quite overgrown. This part was mostly goldenrod, but a lot of it was berry bushes. I was wearing shorts. I ended up looking a bit like I was in a war. Long pants tomorrow!
Big treat at the end of the day. We passed a chicken barbeque on the way home and had to bring one dinner home to share. They were huge. Very nice ending to the day.
Conservation Branch of the Finger Lakes Trail, Canada Hill Rd to Felton Hill Rd. 7.6 miles. (We are being rather leisurely.)

Love that view in the second picture. Those asters sure are pretty. I was out yesterday and saw lots of goldenrod and a few splashes of purple along the roadside.
That dinner looks delicious.
