Today, we started hiking the Bristol Hills Branch of the Finger Lakes Trail. It generally runs north-south west of Canandaigua Lake till it meets the main trail near Mitchellsville. It's about 55 miles, plus a small loop we want to add. This is one valley west of Canandaigua Lake. As you can see there are gorgeous steep-sided valleys.
And, we got to walk today with two of my favorite people. Dan and Ruth are two more of the few people who have hiked the entire North Country Trail. They live near here and joined us.
We saw a doe with twin fawns. I couldn't get them both in the picture, but they were all totally unconcerned about us.
Also, we encountered two brown garter snakes.
Passing by a beaver pond. There were several swarms of whirlygig beetles. I was too far away to get a good picture, but they were interesting. Marie, Dan, and Ruth at one of the beautiful overlooks. And a better view of the valley below. 6.1 miles total. A wonderful day! It was predicted to rain in the afternoon, but it never did, and although it was warm it wasn't unbearably hot.
