Friend Dave, yes Philadelphia Dave, was in Grand Rapids and asked if he could come up for the day. Of course!
So, we started out with joining a group hike on the North Country Trail.
We did the section with the Vince Smith bridge.
One very nifty find on the hike was a young Northern Redbelly snake. They are very calm. This one was only about 6 inches long. They rarely exceed 12 inches even when full grown.
I was holding him, and everyone else was trying to get pictures. So far, no one has sent me a picture of the red belly, but you can see how red it is at the tip of his tail.
After we got home, we chilled for a while and then decided to go to a concert at the Ludington State Park. It was held outside the new Beach House.
We went to hear the Third Coast Swing Band. They were very, very good. Two local members- professional level.
Ludington in the summer... this picture just says it all.
Got someone to take a picture of Dave and me (see above). What a really nice day! Definitely more than a package of hot dogs, although we did eat some of them with macaroni salad and chips. Quite perfect.
North Country Trail miles in 2021 is at 337.
North Country Trail, Lake County, MI, Mac Road to 3 Mile Road and back. 7+ miles

What a wonderful way to spend the day.
The first picture of that snake makes it look way longer than 6". The second with someone holding it put things more in perspective for it's size.
Chaplin: "That little snake looks like it would be a lot of fun to play with."
Lulu: "Fun for who, you or the snake?"
Chaplin: "Me of course."
Ann- interesting- probably because it is so slim
Chaplin- we moved it to the side of the road, so it would live to play with whomever it wanted to another day.
