This guy was hammering on the wood corner of the house today. I prefer to have him hammer on the trees!
But they sure are pretty. It's a hairy woodpecker. They look just like the downy woodpeckers except they are bigger.

Oh he's a pretty one. Hammering on the house isn't too neighborly of him though
I've seen people put strips of tinfoil on the side of the house to prevent that. I wonder if that works?
We see downy woodpeckers around here regularly. On Christmas, our neighbor captured a pic of a pileated woodpecker.
